Brahmin Diaz, Real Madrid‘s midfielder, is on his way to switching allegiances. He is reportedly choosing to represent Morocco over Spain on the international stage. According to sources from the Moroccan Football Federation, Brahmin Diaz will play for the African Nation of Morocco subject to any administrative issues.
The 24-year-old has represented Spain at all levels. He made his debut for the senior team back in 2021 against Lithuania under Luis de la Fuente. However, he has yet to make over three appearances for the Spanish Nation. So, he falls under the ‘eligible category’ for a switch in national allegiances.
While Diaz may be happy with his decision, this spells trouble for Real Madrid as they will be without the player in the month of January because of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Brahmin Diaz is mainly deployed for Carlo Ancelotti‘s side off the bench. But, missing out on a key substitute during a hectic schedule could potentially be harmful to the team’s aspirations on all fronts.
Brahmin Diaz will be available for Real Madrid till the month of December before leaving for the tournament starting in Ivory Coast.
Brahmin Diaz has played for top clubs around Europe
Brahim Diaz made his senior debut in 2016. And till now, the Real Madrid man has already played for some of the best teams in the world. Starting his career at Manchester City, the boy from Malaga spent one year in City’s youth academy before receiving his first call-up to the senior team. Though his appearances were restricted to the FA Cup and EFL Cup at the Etihad, he showed promise.
Furthermore, Diaz played a minor role in his second season being part of City’s ‘Centurions’ squad that achieved 100 points in a season. He lifted the first-ever league title of his career.
Later, in 2019 the Spanish midfielder caught the eye of Real Madrid as a rising star with promise. He was subsequently purchased for a transfer fee of £15.5m increasing to £22m with add-ons. Within a season, however, Diaz was loaned off to AC Milan where he finally proved his value. He spent 3 years in Italy. Playing a huge part in the Milan team, he helped the Rossoneri lift the Serie A after more than a decade.
Now returning to his parent club after 3 years away, Real Madrid’s investment in Jude Bellingham, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Camavinga has left the player on the bench. Yet again, leaving him to make minor appearances here and there.
