Spain took on Norway in the UEFA Euro Qualifiers on Monday. La Furia Roja saw off the home side in a narrow 1-0 win. A goal scored by Barcelona star Gavi was the only difference between the two sides on the night. His goal, however, earned him more than just 3 points. In spite of a harsh rivalry, maybe even the biggest, a Real Madrid player heaped praise on Gavi.

Following the full-time whistle, Dani Carvajal made sure that Gavi received his flowers. He said, “19 years old and a starter at both Barcà and the national team; little more to say.” Carvajal also referred to Gavi as a ‘pearl’. With both Pedri and Frenkie de Jong nursing injuries, Gavi has stepped in and has been performing regularly in midfield.

The 19-year-old has arguably been the best midfielder for the Blaugrana this season. Gavi’s goal against Norway meant that Spain ensured qualification for the tournament set to happen in June 2024.

La Furia Roja overtook Scotland in terms of goal difference, who are also tied with 15 points. Fans were quick to praise Carvajal for his honesty, and for not letting club rivalries affect his opinion.

Spain defeat Norway and Erling Haaland to secure Euro Qualification

Spain saw off Erling Haaland and Norway to become table toppers in Group A. The side led by Alvaro Morata was on the front foot from the beginning. Spain mounted the pressure early on, with shots from Carvajal and Ansu Fati ringing warning bells for the home side. Spain thought they had the lead when Morata fired into an empty net after Ansu Fati was obstructed by the keeper.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland had a night to forget against Spain. He failed to dispatch a single shot on target. However, in the second half, Spain managed to pull themselves ahead. Gavi scored the all-important goal that ensured qualification for Luis de la Fuente’s side. The ball fell perfectly for Gavi after confusion in front of the box.

Following the game, Dani Carvajal was quick to praise the goal scorer. Spain’s win over Norway meant that Scotland also qualified as 2nd in the group. Norway are set to miss out on the Euro unless the side manages to find victory in the playoffs. Gavi’s strike marked his 5th goal for the National side. He has donned National colors 25 times in his career.
