Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde punched Villarreal’s Alex Baena. This happened after Madrid’s 3-2 La Liga defeat to Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday. Valverde was reportedly angered due to the alleged derogatory remarks that Baena had made about his unborn child. Fede and partner Mina Bonino revealed on social media this February that the couple had suffered the loss of their child due to miscarriage.
Valverde was reportedly waiting for Baena in the area where the visiting team buses were parked. And as soon as the Villareal player confronted him, he threw in a punch.
Although Netizens and media houses all around the world are talking about it now. But this is not the only time when things went heated between the two players.
The History of tension between Valvarde and Baena

Back in January, Alex Baena allegedly made comments, during the ongoing Copa del Rey game, about Fede Valverde’s wife suffering a miscarriage. He used that to provoke Valverde. Baena also made crying gestures towards Valverde during that match. Bean reportedly said Valverde, “Cry because your child won’t be born” . These all were deeply upsetting for Valverde who lost his child prior to the incident.
Alex Baena repeated his actions and commented on the same during Villarreal’s latest win against Real Madrid last night. This infuriated Fede Valverde. Valverde apparently waited in the car park before punching the Spaniard in the face. Police has reportedly obtained a video of the incident. Although Villarreal decided not to press charges against Valverde as the investigation continues.

Federico Valverde’s Club career so far

In July 2016 Valverde was transferred from Peñarol to Real Madrid. Although initially he was been assigned to their reserve team Castilla. Two months later, he made his debut for Castilla against Real Unión. He became a regular member of the Castilla line-up his debut season. And scored his first goal against Albacete in December 2016. In regards to his growing importance to the team, his coach at Castilla, said on 29 January 2017, “I’m very happy with him. He has adapted very well to the club and country. Valverde always generates a lot of football in midfield.”
Deportivo La Coruña
On 22 June 2017, Valverde was loaned to La Liga side Deportivo de La Coruña for one year. He made his debut in the competition on 10 September, replacing Fede Cartabia in a 2–4 home loss against Real Sociedad. Valverde contributed with 24 league appearances during the campaign, as the side suffered relegation.
Real Madrid
After he returned from loan, Valverde impressed new manager Julen Lopetegui during the 2018–19 pre-season. On 23 October 2018, Valverde made his official Real Madrid debut in the UEFA Champions League Group stage against Viktoria Plzeň at the Bernabéu. At that moment he was just 20 years old. He made 25 appearances and won the FIFA Club World Cup in his first season with the first team.
Later Zinedine Zidane returned to the dugout. And with the departure of Marcos Llorente, Valverde broke through to become a key player of the squad during the 2019–20 season. On November 9, 2019, he scored his first goal for Real Madrid, in a 4–0 away win over Eibar in La Liga.
On September 27, Valverde scored Real Madrid’s first goal of the 2020–21 season away to Betis in La Liga in an eventual 3–2 win. He was then selected as the ‘King of The Match’. This was also his 50th La Liga match for Los Blancos. One month later on October 24, Valverde scored against Barcelona at Camp Nou in just five minutes in an eventual 3–1 league win. He became just the second Uruguayan to score in El Clásico after legendary striker Luis Suárez. One week later, Valverde scored again, against Huesca, in a 4–1 league win at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium. This was his third goal of the season. This meant he had already scored more than in the entire previous campaign.
It was on August 24, 2021, Valverde extended his contract until 2027. On 12 January 2022, he scored Real Madrid’s third goal in a 3–2 win over Barcelona in extra time of the Supercopa de España semi-final. On May 28, he assisted Vinícius Júnior to score the winning goal in a 1–0 win over Liverpool in the 2022 UEFA Champions League to clinch a record 14th UEFA Champions League title for Real Madrid. On September 14, 2022, he scored his first Champions League goal in a 2–0 victory over RB Leipzig.
Alex Baena’s Club career so far

Villerial CF
Alex Baena joined Villarreal CF’s youth setup in 2011, from CD Roquetas. He made his senior debut with the C-team on 21 December 2018. He came on as a second-half substitute in a 2–0 Tercera División home win against UD Rayo Ibense. Ahead of the 2019–20 season, Baena was assigned to the reserves in Segunda División B. He made his debut for the side on September 2019 by starting in a 3–0 win at UE Llagostera. On July 13 of the following year, he made his first team debut, replacing fellow youth graduate Manu Trigueros in a 1–2 home loss against Real Sociedad.,
Baena scored his first professional goal on 5 November 2020, netting his team’s third in a 4–0 UEFA Europa League against Maccabi Tel Aviv FC. Seven days later, he renewed his contract until 2025.
On 19 August 2021, Baena moved to Segunda División side Girona FC on a one-year loan deal. He returned to the Yellow Submarine after being a starter in the Catalans’ promotion. And he scored a brace in a 3–0 away win over Real Valladolid on August 13, 2022. On 26 August 2022, Baena was definitely promoted to the main squad
