Jude Bellingham, 20, is reported to have won the 2023 Golden Boy Award, as per football journalist José Félix Díaz. This award goes to the best player under 21 in Europe.
Bellingham’s strong start in the 2023/24 season with his new club, Real Madrid, is set to break FC Barcelona‘s two-year streak of winning this award. If he wins, he’ll join a prestigious list of past winners. That includes Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, and his former Borussia Dortmund teammate, Erling Haaland, who won in 2020. The official announcement of the winner will be made on December 4th in Turin.
Moreover, Jude Bellingham’s remarkable start at Real Madrid has caught the eye. The boy from Brum is now La Liga’s leading goalscorer with 13 goals in just 13 appearances. All the while, keeping Antoine Griezmann at bay.
Furthermore, Bellingham’s outstanding performances in the Bundesliga add to his claim of winning the Golden Boy Award. From winning ‘Player of the Season’ at age 19 to becoming the youngest-ever Bundesliga captain since record-keeping began in 1995.
Meanwhile, more than a month remains until the results are announced. Jude Bellingham still has five more fixtures left before the award his reported to be handed over to him.
Jude Bellingham scores a brace on his El Clasico debut
In a historic game that has seen the best players in football history represent both sides, 20-year-old Jude Bellingham’s brace for Real Madrid sealed the tie for his club as they beat FC Barcelona away from home with a late goal.
Trailing since the 6th minute of the game after Ilkay Gundogan‘s goal for Barcelona, Real Madrid had to wait an entire 62 minutes until Jude Bellingham picked up the ball from outside the box and scored a screamer into the right side of the goal.
While the match was heading for a draw, a close finish from Bellingham changed the outcome of the game. A cross from the right side of the pitch – which was deflected by Luka Modric on the way – was put into the back of the net by the English midfielder in 90+2 minutes.
The win on the evening puts Real Madrid on top of the La Liga table, equal at 28 points with Girona. A loss for Barcelona was their first of the season placing them at 3rd place, four points of the top.
