Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu opening delayed after reconstruction amid ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis

Real Madrid will have to wait a little longer until they unveil the new refurbished Santiago Bernabeu to the fans. The club has found it difficult to obtain important materials like Steel amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has impacted the entire world and football is no different. While the football fraternity and all the players banded together against war, the implication has been devastating, both economically and emotionally.

“End of next season” – Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez confirms delay in construction

Speaking in an interview with  El Chiringuito, Florentino Perez said, “It will be ready within a year, at the end of next season. We started work and just after the pandemic came.”

“And then the war in Ukraine and that, as we all know, has provoked two things: a lack of materials and an increase in price. But we are in the process of solving all of the problems and we are happy to have started, even if it was before the pandemic.”

While Real Madrid has been hosting games at the Santiago Bernabeu now for a while, the stadium is yet to be completed with added capacity and many more new designs and features. Real Madrid won their record 14th Champions League trophy last month as they defeated Liverpool in the finals.

The team will be jetting off to the United States of America for their pre-season before kicking off the new season with the UEFA Super Cup match against Eintracht Frankfurt on 11th August.
