Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois credits Ter Stegen for Barcelona’s strong lead in La Liga 2022-23 season
Thibaut Courtois commends about German keeper ahead of El Clasico fixture

Thibaut Courtois recently applauded Ter Stegen ahead of facing each other in the upcoming El Clasico. The Belgian commended Barcelona is atop the League due to his spectacular performances as the Catalans were mostly winning 1-0 while concentrating on keeping clean sheets.
Speaking to the media, Courtois said, “Barça have a 9 point lead in La Liga because of Ter Stegen. Otherwise, those 1-0 wins would have ended in draws.” The German has kept 19 clean sheets in 25 matches so far while conceding just 7 goals. That is one of the best goalkeeping stats in Europe this season. He has played a crucial part in Barcelona’s season so far.
Ter Stegen joined Barcelona in 2014 after an impressive stint at German club Borussia Monchengladbach. He was made the first-choice goalkeeper in both the Copa del Rey matches and in the UEFA Champions League while Claudio Bravo played the League matches. He has since developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world and is now an undisputable starter for Barcelona in all competitions.
The goalkeeper’s defensive line has also played a crucial part in his clean sheets as the club has conceded the least goals this season so far most notably the likes of Araujo and Kounde. Barcelona faces Real Madrid next in La Liga tomorrow and they will hope the goalkeeper keeps his form given the fact that the Blaugranas have concentrated on clean sheets mostly.

Can Marc-André Ter Stegen beat Thibaut Courtois and break the La Liga clean sheet record this season?

Barcelona goes into this weekend’s El Clásico in a dominant position in the league. Barça is nine points clear of Real Madrid with 13 games still to play and knows that victory at Camp Nou could all but seal their first league title since the departure of Lionel Messi.
While the Catalans have not found a replacement for the Argentine’s incredible attacking gifts, they have formed one of the most impressive defensive records seen in La Liga history. German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Rer Stegen has been among the league’s top performers this season and he could well break a record that has long been thought of as untouchable.
So far this season, the German has recorded an incredible 19 clean sheets in 25 league games. The German has not been beaten in 76% of his La Liga outings this year. If he were to play every game for the remainder of this season and continue to keep clean sheets at this rate, he will end the season with 28 shut-outs. This would beat the league record of 26 set by Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francisco Liaño in the 1993/94 season. Deportivo finished second in that campaign but Liaño’s record has been unbeatable for the past three decades.
