Antonio Rudiger became Real Madrid’s first signing of the season after he joined the Los Blancos on a free transfer from Chelsea. However, Real wasn’t the only club interested in signing the German defender.
Antonio Rudiger found a new form under Thomas Tuchel when the German arrived from PSG. Promoting Rudiger to become the club’s first-choice defender. However, when contract talks with Chelsea reached a dead end, clubs like Barcelona, Bayern and Real Madrid were quick to secure his services.

Even though Barcelona made definitive approaches to sign Antonio Rudiger for free from Chelsea and offered to match the German’s salary at Real Madrid, Rudiger had eyes only for the Spanish capital.
Speaking about the move, Rudiger said, “There was [a call] from Barcelona,” Rudiger said during his introductory press conference on Monday. But I told my [agent] it was Real Madrid or nothing.”
“The first time I got in contact, not myself but through my agent, was early September the first time. The second time was when I spoke with Ancelotti in April.”
“I think that was the most important moment, to speak with Ancelotti and then I made my choice to play for this club and under him“, the German concluded. Antonio Rudiger is set to battle with Eder Militao and David Alaba to for the centre-back position at the Santiago Bernabeu.
