“Really saddened by his leaving”- Former Bayern Munich CEO regrets letting go David Alaba to Real Madrid

Alaba and Rummenigge

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a veteran Bayern Munich player, manager, and former CEO, discussed how terrible it was for the German club to lose a key player like David Alaba to Real Madrid this year during free agency.

So far, Alaba has been the backbone of Real Madrid’s season, and he has slotted in well. David Alaba signed for Real Madrid last summer after failing to reach an agreement with FC Bayern, creating a hole in the Munich defense. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is also affected by this.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a former Bayern Munich player and current chairman, spoke to German tabloid Bild on how difficult it was for the German team to lose both David Alaba and Toni Kroos to Real Madrid – two players who have smoothly assimilated into the Spanish team.

“I am really saddened by his leaving,” Rummenigge expressed regret. “Please accept my apologies. He was the captain of the defense and had a fantastic year in Lisbon, when we won the Champions League. His defeat at Bayern is palpable. That’s something I have a feeling about.”

Apart from David Alaba, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also discussed the departure of Toni Kroos in 2014

Alaba and Kroos

“His agency put a lot of pressure on Bayern,” Rummenigge remarked. “It was so big that we couldn’t finish it.” We paid a transfer fee, and I don’t believe it was because we made a mistake.”

“We don’t need to talk about his professional background. Obviously, it’s exceptional. He’s also playing for a terrific team that consistently wins titles and has had great coaches,” he concluded.

In the end, though, it cannot be argued that Real Madrid and Kroos will be happier with the trade than Bayern Munich.
