A day to forget for Chelsea, as the men in blue were beaten 3-1 by rivals West Ham. A missed penalty by Enzo Fernández in the 43rd minute set the tone for the rest of the game as the Hammers would go on to score two more after the incident. The first half ended 1-1 after goals by Nayef Aguerd for West Ham and Carney Chukwuemeka for Chelsea.

Michail Antonio scored for West Ham after a thunderous strike in the 53rd minute. A 67th-minute red card for goal scorer Nayef Aguerd left the Irons with one man down. Chelsea however could not capitalize as they conceded a penalty in the 90+5′ minute scored by Lucas Paquetá. Following a 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool, means they have just one point from a possible six. Mauricio Pochettino was disappointed by the result but will be hoping for a better result when his side faces Luton Town on the 25th of August. The newly promoted side are considered by many to be relegation candidates.
