“Respect fans!” – Bayern Munich fans express discontent towards fixture changes resulting from Queen Elizabeth II’s demise

Following the death of the UK’s longest-reigning monarch last weekend, both the English Football League and the Premier League postponed their entire schedules. Despite the fact that English top-flight football will return on Friday, Manchester United’s game against Leeds United and Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea won’t happen because of safety concerns over the Queen’s burial weekend.

The problem has also affected European football; Rangers’ Champions League match against Napoli was postponed by one day, while Arsenal’s Europa League match against PSV was cancelled. The fact that Napoli cannot go with fans to Scotland for that match due to policing concerns was referred to as a “serious penalty” by coach Luciano Spalletti on Tuesday.

In light of this, Bayern’s supporters displayed the following message during the 26th minute of their match versus Barcelona: “Last-minute match delays and bans because of a royal’s death? Respect fans!”

Champions League 2022-23: Bayern Munich 2 – 0 Barcelona

Bayern Munich vs Barcelona

Barcelona were handed their first loss of the new season on Wednesday as old foes Bayern Munich defeated them 2-0 at the Allianz Arena in the UEFA Champions League. Barca dominated play for the majority of the first half and produced numerous excellent opportunities that they did not take advantage of.

Those errors would come back to haunt Xavi and his side as Leroy Sane made it 2-0 before Lucas Hernandez gave Die Roten the lead early in the second half. Barcelona tried to come back into the match but were unsuccessful as they fell to the Bavarians for the fifth straight time.
