Sports commentator Richard Keys made a surprising claim that Jose Mourinho had deliberately gotten himself sacked at Manchester United. Moreover, he added that the Portuguese used Paul Pogba as a way out of the club. Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United in December 2018, after joining the side two-and-a-half years ago.

The 61-year-old manager was shown the way out owing to disappointing performances, that left United 19 points behind the table-toppers after the first half of the 2019-20 season. TV presenter and sports commentator Richard Keys in a blog, mentioned that the Portuguese deliberately got himself sacked and used United record-signing Paul Pogba as a key to it.

The Frenchman had a poor stint at the club and also did not enjoy a good relationship with manager Jose Mourinho. In his blog, Keys wrote that the manager used the midfielder to get himself sacked. The Portuguese caught the attention of the United board, after he left Pogba out on the bench for three consecutive matches, despite the player being in-form. Keys added that Mourinho’s plan worked perfectly.

He once told me he knew he'd be sacked at United for leaving Pogba out of three consecutive games – at a time when the Frenchman's stock was at its highest. All planned. And it worked perfectly. He wanted the sack. He got it.

The TV presenter also criticized the Portuguese manager for criticizing players at any club and subsequently departing with financial compensation. He highlighted a similar situation to Jose Mourinho’s recent dismissal from Roma last month.

One of the Premier League’s most decorated managers, the 61-year-old has won the EPL title on three occasions with Chelsea. The Blues may consider rehiring him to bolster their chances of securing a top-four finish this season.

Current manager Mauricio Pochettino has faced challenges at the club, leading to calls for his dismissal. Meanwhile, Newcastle, who saw success under Eddie Howe last season, could also consider Mourinho as a replacement.

Manchester United may also consider hiring Jose Mourinho, who previously managed the club from 2016 to 2018, as a potential replacement for Dutchman Erik ten Hag.
