Juventus star Paul Pogba was recently slammed with a 4-year ban from football following a positive drug test. The World Cup winner and former Manchester United midfielder is currently 30 years old and will be 34 by the time his ban ends. Considering he does not decide to hang up his boots, fans are hoping for the midfielder to give some much-needed insight into the ban.
Pogba penned an emotional message on Instagram following his conviction, and said that he is withholding the ‘complete’ story in light of the ongoing happenings in court. However, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the player to break his ‘silence’ and let the footballing World know the real story.
He needs to speak, even if they think it messes up the court case or not. I don't think it will be two if he appeals because these people always want to get their amount of blood. He has to look at himself here.Rio Ferdinand said on ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE’
Ferdinand himself was banned for a span of eight months during his playing days for missing a drug test, back in 2003. He also said that he was acquitted of the claim against him.
Former Man United forward labels return to United a ‘mistake’
Paul Pogba’s career is certainly up there with the rest when it comes to being the biggest ‘what if’ in football. The Frenchman’s brilliance was put on display early on during his days at Juventus, from 2012-2016. He was so good that Manchester United broke the bank for him in 2016, paying a €105 million fee to bring him back! However, 8 years and a 4-year-ban later, many, including Garth Crooks have criticized the move in hindsight.
The former Man United forward sympathized with the midfielder, saying that his time at United certainly wasn’t a failure.
He certainly is an enigma. His mistake was returning to United for a staggering £89 million fee and not just failing to win the Champions League, but not even coming close to itGarth Crooks wrote in his BBC column
Crooks added that he was one of Pogba’s biggest critics, but not for his hairstyles but because on several occasions, for robbing fans of his genius.
In a sad admission of how Pogba failed to live up to his expectations, Crook said that his lack of success at United is what prevented him from rising to the list of players like David Beckham and Roy Keane. The player’s future is now in the balance, and as Juventus plot to terminate his contract, football fans are worried if they’ll ever get to see the Frenchman weave his magic again on a football pitch.
