Rio Ferdinand shows harsh reality to Jadon Sancho after he released a statement in reply to Erik ten Hag‘s open admission of the player’s lack of quality during training sessions. The former United player believes that the young English player’s rebuttal could be a telling sign that the winger might be on his way out of the club.
Rio Ferdinand had a post-game live reaction with Stephen Howsen and Joel Beya on his YouTube channel Vibe with Five. Following the discussion on the issues with Manchester United’s performances, the topic fell on Jadon Sancho. A former Red Devil himself, Rio was quick to point out that ten Hag’s public call-out of Sancho’s failed training sessions was ‘damning’. “As a professional, I think to be called about your application in training is probably one of the most embarrassing things,” he added.
This comes in the initial stages of the live stream when the trio was discussing the ‘ifs, buts, and the maybes’ of the scenario. But, later on, once Jadon Sancho posted the statement in reply to Erik ten Hag‘s comments. Rio Ferdinand quickly pointed out that ‘this is not the Manchester United way of doing things publicly’.
However, he also said that Sancho coming out like this means that he feels that he is performing well.“Next morning I will be at the manager’s office and saying, ‘What the f*** are you talking about? How dare you come out and question my professionalism when I’ve trained as well as anybody?’.”
Finally, Ferdinand concluded it by giving his verdict, “There are only two ways that this ends right now. There’s only one window open and that’s Saudi. And/or surely you’re on the bench and not getting in the squad for the rest of the season.”
Well, as far as the fans are concerned, they just fear that this might be the Deja vu, considering how it ended with Cristiano Ronaldo. But there is always more to it than it appears on the surface.
A poor stint at Manchester United for Jadon Sancho
Old Trafford was buzzing when Jadon Sancho was finally announced from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Considering how well the player performed in the Bundesliga, it was not a surprise to see such a reaction. At the time Manchester United bought the star for £73m. Two years hence, he is still unable to replicate the same form from Dortmund.
In 82 appearances, Sancho has 12 goals and 6 assists at United. Compare this to his Dortmund numbers of 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games. Well, it is quite poor! He is too inconsistent with his performances as a Red Devil. Though Sancho is talented enough for one-tap football. He is unable to show the output on the field, yet.
Starting his 3rd season at Manchester United, Jadon Sancho looked sharp in the pre-season. Consequently, it seemed like this was his year to shine in the Red Manchester. However, with all the recent fiasco surrounding him and Erik ten Hag, the result more and more seems to be what Rio Ferdinand said. If Sancho is to redeem himself from all the criticisms then this is the perfect time.
