Arsenal’s fairytale title charge continued to get away from them as they lost to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium. Julio Enciso scored a goal in the 51st minute, resulting in the Gunners’ defeat.
The away side began strongly, keeping almost 80 percent of the ball in the first quarter of an hour. They dictated play, however failed to create many clear cut chances. Arsenal slowly grew into the game and even hit the woodwork in the 31st minute. Granit Xhaka released former Brighton player Leandro Trossard into the area with a short pass, and Trossard’s shot crashed against the crossbar.
It was the Seagulls who came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half as well, scoring six minutes after the interval. Kaoru Mitoma made a mockery of Ben White on the left hand side, and layed the ball off to Pervis Estupinan. The full-back picked out Enciso on his second attempt and the teenager nodded in the ball from close range.
For the remainder of the game, Arsenal’s opponents thoroughly shut them out, and the Gunners appeared as a shadow of the team that has steamrolled multiple opponents this season. Brighton piled on further misery upon the London side as Trossard’s blunder gave Deniz Undav a simple opportunity to score. The German showed immaculate composure as he knocked the ball over Aaron Ramsdale and into the net. The Seagulls were not finished there. Estupinan scored his first ever Brighton goal and his team’s third in the game, following a weak parry by Ramsdale.

Fans react as Arsenal suffer another title blow
Manchester City looks set to win the Premier League comfortably. They are four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand and could be champions by this time next week.
An Arsenal loss on Saturday against Nottingham Forest would mean the Citizens win their third title in a row. They can also confirm their status as Premier League winners by beating Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on May 21. The blue side of Manchester could secure a treble as well, with a Champions League semi-final coming up, as well as an FA Cup final against city rivals Manchester United.
