“Only scores bangers weak foot; Rodri Rocket”- Fans hail Rodri’s stunner against Bayern marking his first-ever Champions League goal

Rodri’s splendid effort against Bayern Munich in the Champions League gave Manchester City the lead. Just before the half-hour mark, the Spain international unleashed a long-range shot that beat Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Manchester City took an early lead in their quarter-final match against Bayern Munich thanks to the eye-catching strike. This is the midfielder’s first Champions League goal. More importantly, it provided City with an early advantage in the two-team tie.

The home side began on the front foot, continuously threatening the Bayern defence. The Germans hit back with their first chance in the 11th minute, but Alphonso Davies dragged his effort well wide of Ederson’s goal. However, it was City with the first big chance of the game. Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer almost gifted City a goal after intense pressure from Erling Haaland, with the Norwegian almost deflecting the ball over the goal line.

Haaland was involved again as City sliced through Bayern. Jack Grealish flicked a pass to Haaland just inside the area, but the striker’s finish was too close to Sommer. The miss was not costly, as Rodri’s stunner gave the Citizens the lead four minutes later. They almost made it 2-0 in the 34th minute, only for Sommer to make an incredible save from a Gundogan volley. Despite the game having an end-to-end feel, Bayern failed to create many clear-cut opportunities.

Bayern Munich and Manchester City will meet again in the second leg next Wednesday at the Allianz Arena. The winners will advance to the semi-finals, where they will face either Real Madrid or Chelsea.

Both teams are involved in tight title races in their respective leagues. Manchester City takes on relegation-threatened Leicester at the Etihad on Saturday and is looking to eat away at Arsenal’s six-point lead after their 2-2 draw at Anfield. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is two points ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga. They will be looking to maintain that lead when they welcome Hoffenheim to the Allianz Arena.
