Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, often dubbed as ‘the Special One’, was sacked by Serie A side Roma, just a few days after fans applauded him at the Stadio Olimpico. The decision resulted from Roma’s disappointing performance this season.
At 60, Jose Mourinho, a renowned coach, holds 26 titles, managing top clubs like Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Roma. Noteworthy achievements include three UEFA Champions League, three Serie A, three Premier League, and one La Liga title. He was also honored with the IFFHS Best Coach of the 21st Century award for his success from 2001 to 2020.
Replacing Paulo Fonseca at Roma in 2021, Mourinho guided the club to a UEFA Conference League victory in 2022. Following a 6th-place finish last season, Roma has faced challenges this season, occupying the 9th position on the Serie A table.
Despite receiving cheers from fans a few days earlier in a match against Atalanta where Mourinho received a red card, he faced criticism from supporters during a 3-1 loss to AC Milan last Sunday. Poor results and inconsistent performances have resulted in the club parting ways with the Portuguese, with Roma having won just 8 matches out of their 20 in the league this season.
Despite being widely respected across Europe, Mourinho’s stint with the Italian club was unsuccessful. He has been replaced by former Roma midfielder, Daniele de Rossi.
