Romelu Lukaku wishes to return to Inter Milan from Chelsea: Reports

Romelu Lukaku

After a sensational €115 million return to Stamford Bridge last summer, it seems that Romelu Lukaku wants to go back to his former club, Inter Milan. The 29-year-old endured a lackluster season with the Blues as he managed just 13 goals in 42 appearances for the club. Under Antonio Conte at Inter Milan, Lukaku became one of the world’s most lethal strikers, enough for Chelsea to break the bank on him.

However, Thomas Tuchel has been unable to get the best out of the Belgian striker. His performances were so low that Chelsea eventually has to bench Lukaku for most games towards the end of the season.

Lukaku only started 16 Premier League games this season and managed to find the net only 8 times. Hence, the Belgian is desperate to return back to Inter where he enjoyed the best goal-scoring form in his career.

Inter Milan cannot afford Romelu Lukaku as of now

As reported by Sky Sports, one of the reasons that Inter Milan has to let go of Romelu Lukaku last summer was their financial troubles. That was the same reason the club also sold Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain. Moreover, Chelsea will not be willing to sell their Belgian striker for any price less than what they paid. Hence, the best possible option for all parties involved in a loan deal.

Chelsea and Tuchel have developed a playing style where the team doesn’t always need a no. 9 to spearhead the attack. Instead, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, and Timo Werner have done a good job in ensuring the club gets goals by playing as false 9s in games. However, both Tuchel and the new Chelsea board are adamant about getting a proper striker who can replace Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea was in the race to sign Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski. But it seems the polish forward has eyes only for Barcelona at the moment. With Inter also confirming a move for Paulo Dybala, they are not in a desperate need to sign Lukaku, as the Inter CEO said, they are in ‘No Rush’ to bring Lukaku back. It will be a long summer for Romelu Lukaku as he waits to see what the future holds for him.
