Ronald Araujo joins Barcelona’s treatment table as 5 Blaugrana players injured on International duty

Ronald Araujo’s thigh injury, which occurred while he was representing Uruguay internationally, has been confirmed by Barcelona, adding to the Blaugrana’s defensive issues after Jules Kounde suffered a hamstring injury. Araujo was replaced five minutes into Friday’s 1-0 loss for Uruguay in a friendly against Iran in Austria after collapsing earlier in the game.

Jules Kounde was replaced during France’s victory against Austria in the Nations League on Thursday, and the French Football Federation stated earlier on Friday that Kounde would be leaving Didier Deschamps’ camp.

Barcelona has officially disclosed the extent of the two players’ injuries, with Araujo having a right thigh avulsion fracture and Kounde having a left hamstring biceps femoris injury. The Blaugrana did not provide a timeline for the return of either defender, but sources out of Spain indicated that both might be sidelined for about a month.

For Xavi, who has made Araujo and Kounde defensive stalwarts in his revamped team, losing both players for any length of time would be a serious blow. Araujo has started each of Barca’s six LaLiga games this season, while Kounde, a right-back who has filled in since joining from Sevilla, has contributed two assists in three league games for the Catalan heavyweights.

Barcelona’s Memphis Depay, Ousmane Dembele, and Jules Kounde sustained injuries while serving their countries. All three had excellent nights because their countries won the Netherlands and France defeated Poland and Austria, respectively, by scores of 2-0. However, from a personal standpoint, things didn’t go as smoothly.

After 49 minutes in Warsaw, Memphis collapsed holding his hamstring and had to be replaced right away by Vincent Janssen. While Dembele entered the game in the final 10 minutes and experienced muscle pain before the game ended in Paris, Kounde was forced off after just 23 minutes due to an injury.

The situation for the other two doesn’t seem as promising as it does for Dembele, whose injury is only believed to be slight and could yet allow him to play for France on Sunday.
