In the Premier League on Sunday, Aston Villa defeated Manchester United 3-1 at Villa Park as Unai Emery made a triumphant comeback to English football. Leon Bailey gave the home team the lead after just seven minutes. Soon after, Lucas Digne scored from a free kick to give Villa the assurance.
Jacob Ramsey deflected Luke Shaw’s long shot into his own goal to give United a late comeback hopes in the first half, but he soon after the break scored at the right end. Erik ten Hag’s team was unable to respond, and Villa’s defence was never really put to the test on another discouraging day for United.

Emery’s comeback to the Premier League got off to the best possible start as Ramsey fed a pass to Bailey, who used his speed to get past Lisandro Martinez and fire a shot into the bottom-right corner. Four minutes later, the home team increased their advantage when Lucas Digne skillfully scored a free kick from well outside the box, giving David de Gea no chance and sending Villa Park into chaos.
Before the half, United cut the deficit in half thanks to a long-range shot from Shaw that took a vicious deflection off Ramsey. Three minutes into the second half, Ollie Watkins drove forward and passed to Ramsey, who was in the penalty area and sent a ferocious shot into the roof of the net to give Villa their two-goal advantage again.
