Ten Hag believes that a lean and driven Ronaldo can support his squad in the following half of the season, while United hopes to compete in four tournaments. However, he has informed club officials that he is unwilling to compromise squad unity to adjust the Portugal international and that he is ready to let him go even if a backup cannot be found in the January transfer window.

Ten Hag, who is not in Manchester but has postponed the onset of a family vacation to address the situation, thinks Ronaldo has fallen too far in his dissent of the team and admission that he “doesn’t respect” United manager. According to ESPN, United learned about the interview in the hours following their 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday.

Ronaldo has a deal worth more than £500,000 per week till the end of the season, but there is a widespread belief at Old Trafford that reintegrating the 37-year-old into the lineup after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be practically unthinkable.
