Premier League legends Roy Keane and Patrick Vierra believe that if Everton want to survive relegation this time, English forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin will have to step up. The Manchester United and Arsenal legends believe the forward has all the capabilities of a perfect striker and can help the Toffees from dropping down after 73 years in the top flight.

“He’s one of the complete players!” said France legend Patrick Vieira and Irish legend Roy Keane. During the Man City vs Everton pre-match interview Patrick Vieira said, “He was a big loss for Everton, he is a really strong player. He can play back against the goal, he can hold the ball and wait for the team to go a bit more forward.”

The French Legend also added, “He (Dominic Calvert-Lewin) can run in behind. I think he is one of the complete players I would say it. And Everton started to do well is because he is back in the team. If they manage to keep him fit for the rest of the season, they will have a good chance to stay up”

When the journalist asked Roy Keane, “And it’s no coincidence that the last couple of games has been there in terms of Xg, but basically in terms of the quality of the chances and the likelihood of them scoring.” The Irish legend replied, “Everton has struggled all season to score goals and I think particularly over the last month or two “

He also added, ” When he’s (Dominic Calvert-Lewin) fully fit he is certainly a handful. The big problem is his injury problems. He’s been a big plus for Everton over the last month or two particularly since he’s getting up to speed now and if he stays fit for the last two or three games you think Everton will be okay.” he also said that, “he’s a big plus for him. Big player.” Manchester City have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to four points by beating Everton 3-0. Pep Guardiola’s stars were too much for Everton to handle and in the end, the hosts just couldn’t cope with the class on show at Goodison Park.

Everton last suffered relegation in 1950-51, but the Toffees jumped back up a few years later, with a second-place finish in the 1953-54 Second Division earning them promotion to the top flight once again. That makes Everton the second-longest tenured team in the English top flight, with only Arsenal maintaining its top-flight status longer. Arsenal have been a top-tier club in every season since the 1919-20 campaign.

Everton have been a top-flight club longer than Liverpool (since 1962-63), Manchester United (1975-76), Tottenham (1978-79), and Chelsea (1989-90). Everton have been relegated from the English top flight on two occasions, and have never played in a league lower than the second division in the club’s history.

Everton managed to return to the top flight quickly, going straight back up in 1930-31 after winning the Second Division title. Following the next drop in 1951, it took three seasons to secure a return to the First Division in 1953-54. Except for those four campaigns spent outside the top tier of English football, Everton has been in the top flight in every other season throughout the club’s history.

Right now Everton is sitting at 17th right above the relegation zone with just 1 point away from the 18th position Leeds United. But Leicester City having 1 game in hand and also just 2 points away from Everton makes Everton a relegation-threatened team.
