“Antman and Deadpool movie confirmed”- Ryan Reynolds and Paul Rudd set social media on fire after being spotted together during Wrexham match
Wrexham promoted to the Football League, the fourth tier of English footballing pyramid, a trueHollywood ending to their season.

Wrexham secured promotion to League 2 as National League champions and ‘Ant-Man’ star Paul Rudd joined celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in attendance. The Marvel hero was spotted at the Racecourse Ground for a potentially promotion-clinching fixture. The Red Dragons cruised past Yeovil on Tuesday leaving them in need of just one more win from their last two matches to secure League Two promotion.
One of the most entertaining stories in football over the last few seasons took another turn as Hollywood-backed Wrexham sealed promotion into the Football League for the first time since 2008. The subjects of the docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham” have electrified their local community while bringing an unprecedented level of global interest to a lower-division club.
Paul Rudd was spotted at a local pub in the Welsh town drinking beer and singing songs with Wrexham fans clicking photos and selfies. Rudd is the latest star to join Reynolds and McElhenney to catch a game, with Will Ferrell spotted enjoying a pint with fans on his first visit to the team back in February.
Back in November 2020, Deadpool star Reynolds teamed with McElhenney to purchase Wrexham for £2.25m. The duo have become symbols of Welsh football around the world with the publicity and exposure their platforms have bought to the club and the area, largely through the popular documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
Wrexham are on the edge of securing automatic promotion as they sit atop the National League standings, just one point clear of Notts County with a game in hand. They will now compete in League 2 next season and the players are set to enjoy a special reward.

Wrexham: From doubting of Hollywood owners to promotion glory

In the Hollywood world of make-believe, all that glitters is not gold. So when Deadpool superhero Ryan Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney proposed a takeover of Wrexham any uncertainty was understandable. It all sounded a bit too good to be true in a UK football world in which takeovers from across the pond appear to harvest more grumbles than gratitude.
Even among the members of the Wrexham Supporters Trust, who had steered the club through the roughest of waters, there was a tiny bit of dissent. As a fan-owned club, some 2,000 Trust members had a vote on the scarcely believable takeover. Courtesy of two of the most famous owners in football, Wrexham AFC has become a global brand.
As it transpires, the Hollywood stardust has been an incredible force for good, not just for the club, but the city of Wrexham. Appropriately, the quest to turn Wrexham back into a Football League club paralleled a classic Disney storyline. The first series of Welcome to Wrexham charted the entire takeover, but in football terms it chronicled disappointment. Wrexham missed out on promotion and were beaten in the FA Trophy Final.
Wrexham is back in the Football League for the first time since 2008, shaking off the dubious title of the longest-serving club in the fifth tier. Their success has garnered some bitterness from fans of their rivals, understandably, maybe, given the financial resources at their disposal.
