UK side Wrexham AFC recently defeated a U.S. women’s soccer team at the inaugural of The Soccer Tournament this weekend in North Carolina. The Wales-based side earned a promotion to the National League earlier this year.
The Wrexham AFC destroyed the U.S. women’s soccer team by winning the game with 12 goals to nil. The women’s team was not able to score even a single goal before the whistle was blown. With this easy victory, Wrexham AFC made it to the next round of the competition. The players of the Wales-based soccer squad were able to score seven goals in just 20 minutes.
The women’s team was unable to get the ball behind the net with just five shots on target. Whereas on the other side, Wrexham attempted 39 shots on target. However, this match was played very fairly with no offsides, no sidle tackles, and no red or yellow cards. The referee through the entire match didn’t have to take any tough decisions and had very less impact on the game.
Despite Wrexham defeating the women’s team by 12-0 they couldn’t get their hands on the prize money of a million dollars. Instead, it was Newton Pride FC that won the prize money over SLC FC on Sunday. The soccer legend Mia Hamm was managing the women’s team. While notable payers like Heather O’Reilly and Lori Lindsey were on the field for the women’s team.
After the dreadful 12-0 defeat Heather O’Reilly in the post-match interview told, “We’re super Proud, Hopefully, we’ve proved to anybody just go for it, just live. What’s the worst that could happen? We lose 16-0 to Wrexham?”
She further told, “We don’t care because we’re living, we’re being bold and we’re being brave. Here we have two amazing products that American soccer fans are getting behind. It’s just a ton of fun and it’s brought all of us together.”
