Bayern Munich’s new signing, Sadio Mane was named the African Footballer of the year for a second time in the row after a successful season with Liverpool and his country, Senegal.

Sadio Mane helped his country, Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year while also lifting the FA Cup and EFL Cup with Liverpool. He scored a total of 23 goals for the club last season before making the switch to German giants, Bayern Munich.

The Senegal International beat his then teammate Mohamed Salah’s Egypt to win the tournament and later again to secure World Cup qualification against Egypt.

“I dedicate this award to the youth” – Sadio Mane after winning the award for the second time

Speaking at Rabat after being names the African Footballer of the year, Sadio Mane said, “I dedicate this award to the youth of Senegal. I am very emotional and don’t have words to express how I am feeling.”

His new club, Bayern Munich also issues a congratulatory statement for their latest signing while Bayern President Herbert Hainer said, “Congratulations to Sadio Mane on once again being named Africa’s Player of the Year.”

“He’s an absolutely exceptional player and above all a great person, who’s a wonderful ambassador for his homeland Senegal, for the whole of football, as well as for FC Bayern and the whole Bundesliga.”

Tottenham teenager Pepe Mata Sarr, also part of the Senegalese squad that won the AFCON was named the Young player of the year while Edouard Mendy won the goalkeeper of the year award. Mendy finished 3rd in the list for the Best player award behind Mohamed Salah and Mane.
