Sam Kerr accompanies Kylian Mbappé on the iconic FIFA 23 cover
Sam Kerr is the first female football player to be featured on the cover of the FIFA video game series’ international release.
The Chelsea and Matildas player will be included in this year’s FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition with Kylian Mbappé of France and Paris Saint-Germain. Kylian Mbappé has now appeared on the front of the well-known game three times in a row. Kerr and Mbappé are both seen wearing the home stripes of their respective teams in EA’s cover teaser.
With the release of its first FIFA game in 1993, EA Sports made its debut and has since gone on to inspire many new followers. In 2015, when Canadian Christine-Sinclair and American Alex-Morgan were featured on the covers of their respective nations, they included women in the program.
Another indication of how women’s soccer’s popularity is on the rise and how EA Sports adapts to the times is the inclusion of Kerr on the cover.
Sam Kerr appears on the FIFA cover along with Kylian Mbappe:
Women’s athletes have been on the game’s local and special edition covers before, notably Australian Steph Catley in 2016; nevertheless, Kerr’s appearance on the main cover is a first.
Following a standout club season in 2021–2022, in which the 28-year-old helped Chelsea win the league title and the FA Cup, Kerr will be featured on the cover. She is a candidate for the Ballon d’Or Féminin and was awarded the women’s player of the year at the Professional Footballers’ Association awards ceremony.
On July 20, the FIFA 23 official trailer will be unveiled, and the game is anticipated to be on sale in late September or early October.
Significantly, it is the final version of the game created by EA, as their 30-year collaboration with FIFA comes to an end. While FIFA will continue its series with an as-yet-undisclosed partner, EA will continue to create its own football game.
