Manchester United fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The Red Devils finally got back to winning ways on Saturday. After going behind early in the first half, United were staring down the barrel of defeat for the majority of the game. In spite of relentless pressure from the home side, Brentford held on to their one-goal lead. However, United saw the birth of a new hero.
In the unlikeliest of candidates, Scott McTominay stepped up for the Red Devils. The 26-year-old was subbed on in the 87th minute. The out-of-favor midfielder stepped up to save the home side with two quickfire goals. Moreover, his last-minute goal was recorded by a fan from the stands. In a video which went viral, we see the crowd going into pandemonium.
In a last-ditch attempt, Bruno Fernandes sent a lofted ball into the box. Harry Maguire headed the ball into Scott McTominay’s path. The midfielder was already on a goal. He beat his marker to head past Brentford keeper Strakosha. The crowd erupted in cheers as McTominay ran the length of the pitch. In the video, we see United players gathering to embrace McTominay following the goal.

Manchester United get back to winning ways against Brentford
Erik ten Hag‘s side were on the back of 2 consecutive defeats. Losses against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray meant urgency to win. However, the home side had yet another moment to forget as Andre Onana let in a fairly soft shot. After going down in the 26th minute, United upped the ante. Bruno Fernandes saw his blistering shot punched away.
However, Sofyan Amrabat was subbed off for Scott McTominay in minute 87. After Diogo Dalot‘s shot was parried by Strakosha, McTominay picked up the ball to score the equalizer. Moreover, the goal gave the home side a much-needed boost to go on and win the game. The crowd were on their feet expecting a late winner. United gave them just that.
McTominay was not done yet. In a final play by Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay headed in the 97th-minute winner. The crowd erupted in celebrations and fans enjoyed their first win in the last 3 games. Moreover, the win gives a much-needed 3 points after consecutive losses. United are 10th in the Premier League with 12 points in 8 games.
