Xavi hails Sergio Busquets as the best midfielder in the world
Barcelona coach Xavi has crowned Sergio Busquets as the best defensive midfielder in the Catalan club’s history and believes his former team-mate not being included in the lists of Ballon d’Or nominees over the years was a ‘huge injustice’.
Busquets announced this week that he will be leaving Barcelona this summer after 15 seasons with the first team and 18 years at the club overall. Xavi said about Busquets, “He is the best pivot, deep midfielder, whatever you want to call it, that I have seen with my eyes. It always seemed a huge injustice to me that he was never among the nominees for the Ballon d’Or. There is a lot of injustice in football and that was one of them.”
He also added, “He is perhaps the most intelligent midfielder I played with. He has been a 10 out of 10 in every department and is the best pivot in Barça’s history.” Busquets will captain Barcelona in Sunday’s derby and a win at the RCDE Stadium will see the Blaugrana clinch the league title with four rounds of the competition still left to play. it will be Busquets’ 32nd trophy as a Barcelona player.
The 43-year-old was very happy and said, “Very excited about winning La Liga. It would represent an important step. The club is in reconstruction, but winning a league and a Supercopa, would be important for me and the club”

Pique on Barcelona’s La Liga celebrations invite

The 36-year-old defender decided to retire midway through the ongoing season, and since he made seven league appearances for the team in the first half of the campaign, he is liable to win the medal. Xavi said, “Pique is a special case because he retired. He did not go to another team as in other cases. We have thought about it and we will notify him to invite him to celebrate the league with us”
Pique replied to this during a live broadcast and said, “You have to win it first on Sunday” he also added that “I’m very calm now, First you have to win it”. This will be Pique’s ninth league title with Barcelona and the defender said that he still does not know how many leagues he has won with the team
