Several German players refused to participate in the mouth-covering protests at the 2022 FIFA World Cup causing a rift in the dressing room: Reports

Germany
Germany‘s participation in the FIFA World Cup was cut short in the group stages, marking the second time in a row this has happened. Their most notable contribution to the tournament, however, was their protest against FIFA’s ruling to prohibit the ‘One Love’ armband. Before the beginning of their opening match against Japan, all of the German players covered their mouths in a team photo to demonstrate their disagreement with FIFA’s decision.
Some players reportedly refused to participate in the symbolic gesture made by the German football team before their match against Sweden. This act was met with criticism from Belgium’s Eden Hazard who argued that Germany should concentrate on the game of football instead of making political statements. Unfortunately, Germany was unable to progress further in the tournament, with their loss to Japan proving to be the deciding factor.
During an interview, Esther Sedlaczek, a TV presenter, revealed a feud between members of the German football team which had occurred in the changing rooms. Oliver Bierhoff, the director of the German national side, was questioned about the situation.
Germany is eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2022 after a contentious VAR goal by Japan

At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Japan caused a major upset on Friday when they defeated the 2010 World Cup champions Spain 2-1. This result also resulted in Germany being eliminated from the tournament, as despite winning their game against Costa Rica 4-2 on the same day, they were unable to progress to the next stage due to their goal difference compared to Spain.
Prior to the tournament, all four teams in Group E were vying for a spot in the knockout stage. Japan had to secure a victory to remain in contention, and the decision made by VAR had a major impact. A portion of spectators expressed their disapproval of the Japanese side’s second goal, as the ball appeared to have gone out of bounds before Kaoru Mitoma delivered it across. Initially, the goal had been waved off, yet it was still counted.
Japan finished at the top of Group E, having gained two victories from the three matches played. Germany and Spain were both tied with the same points, however Germany could not qualify due to their lower goal difference than Spain who were the victors of the 2010 World Cup.
