Sevilla‘s season has begun roughly. They’ve only won twice out of eight La Liga games, placing them 14th with four losses. In the Champions League, last season’s Europa League champs stand third in their group with two draws in two matches.

Due to this poor start, Sevilla has decided to part ways with their manager, Jose Luis Mendilibar. Despite leading the team to Europa League victory and avoiding relegation last season with a 12th-place finish, he’s become the third manager to be sacked by the club in a year.

Sevilla announced on Sunday their decision to part ways with the manager. “Thank you for everything, José Luis,” read a post on Sevilla’s Twitter account. Next up, Sevilla is all set to host Real Madrid after the international break. Meanwhile, the club will look to replace Mendilibar prior to the match against Real. Rumors suggest that Julen Lopetegui and Andoni Iraola are in contention for the job.

Sevilla fall to 14th after 2-2 draw against Rayo Vallecano

Sevilla dropped points yet again after a draw with Vallecano. The defending Europa League Champions are on a poor run of form. The match on Sunday pointed to the same. Los Nervionenses were 2 goals down in the 26th minute and were playing catch-up throughout the game since Oscar Valentin gave the visitors the lead through a header.

Alvaro Garcia smoothly increased their lead. He skillfully chipped the ball over Ørjan Nyland, extending their advantage before halftime. However, Djibril Sow scored a stunning goal from outside the box, reducing the lead. This intensified the pressure on Rayo’s defense as Sevilla’s En-Nesyri and Sow continued to threaten.

In the end, Youssef En-Nesyri’s remarkable header secured a 2-2 draw. After the match, Sevilla revealed their decision to part ways with their manager. With just 8 points from 8 games, they aim to regroup during the International break and search for a new manager in the meantime.
