Sevilla FC players made a powerful statement of solidarity on Saturday night. Supporting Jenni Hermoso and the Spanish women’s soccer team. Before their La Liga clash, the players wore jerseys bearing the hashtag to the pitch. It has gained traction since Friday: #It’s Over clarifying their support for the Spanish Women’s team.
This hashtag has become a rallying cry against Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Federation. Rubiales faced suspension for uncouth activities, including grabbing his crotch and kissing player Jennifer Hermoso on the lips. When he conducted a public meeting, the call for Rubiales to resign surprised many. He defended his actions, accused of “false feminism,” and asserted that Hermoso had consented to the kiss.
However, Hermoso’s response contradicted his claims, ending with the “Se Acabo” (it’s over) in English, casting doubt on Rubiales’ narrative. Sevilla president Jose Castro criticized Rubiales. In a show of support, Sevilla’s players, including notable names like Ivan Rakitic and Jesus Navas, wore pre-match t-shirts displaying the hashtag. This follows similar acts of solidarity by other La Liga teams like Cadiz. They displayed a banner reading ‘We are all Jenni.’
Sevillian footballer Olga Carmona, scorer of the title-clinching goal in the final and a product of Sevilla’s youth academy, was also honored during the match. The sentiments against Rubiales’ actions and the need to uphold the significance of winning a World Cup title have resonated strongly within the football community.

Manchester City edged a win over Sevilla to win their first-ever UEFA Super Cup
English Champions Manchester City played a close game with the winner of the Europa League earlier this month. In a closely contested game, Manchester City first went down after 25 minutes. Youssef En-Nessyri gave Sevilla the lead with a towering header over the City defenders. It was only due to Cole Palmer’s brilliant header again, which helped City get a 63rd-minute equalizer.
As the two teams went forward to take penalties, a wave of nervousness struck the City bench. The City keeper Ederson had made some great saves to help his confidence as he secured the Penalty win for the Treble Winners as City won 5-4, thanks to Sevilla’s Nemanja Gudelj, who hit the woodwork.
In a shootout until the ninth penalty, nerves were truly tested. Fortunately, City were strong enough to perform and win the Trophy for the first time in their history. This is a significant achievement as City player Jack Grealish made it clear how much Guardiola wanted to win the trophy in a post-match interview. The match also marked the beginning of City’s new signings, Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic.
