In a recent interview, Shakira highlighted how her parents and music helped her recover from her split up with ex-boyfriend Gerard Pique. The couple broke up in June 2022 after dating for 11 years. The reason for this was said to be Gerard Pique’s infidelity.
Gerard Pique had cheated on the Colombian singer with his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti. According to an interview conducted by PEOPLE Magazine, Shakira got to know about this information when her father was admitted to the ICU through the media.
In the interview, she said, “Everything was happening all at once, my house was falling apart,” “I found out from the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was in the ICU. I thought I would not survive so long.”
“The man I have loved the most in my life, my father, left me when I needed him most, but I could not speak with him or receive the advice from my best friend that I would have needed so much,” said Shakira in the interview.
She also said that her parents really helped her in recovering from the breakup. “His recovery has been very hard and slow, but he is a wonderful man (his father) and an endearing character for all of us who always surprises us with his strength. He has overcome a covid, two accidents, pneumonia, five surgeries, all this at 91 years of age in less than six months. My father is the greatest example of resilience and my mother by his side day and night accompanying him,” added the Colombian.

Shakira also said that her music also helped her mental sanity after the breakup. She escaped the dark place in her mind she was in by doing what she loved to do.
She said, “Music saved my life and gave me wings to fly. It allowed me to be myself, it rescued me in the most difficult moments. It connected me with who I really am when I felt I was losing myself. When I didn’t recognize myself, music was my mirror.”
Currently, Shakira is living in Miami with her children leaving Barcelona. She is concentrating on her music and family right now.
