“This time for Africa!!” Shakira’s cheeky tweet after Cristiano Ronaldo’s loss to Morocco at FIFA World Cup 2022
Morocco made history by defeating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals. The Atlas Lions made history by being the first African team to advance to the semifinals of the competition. Shakira praised the African team for their accomplishment on social media.
The game’s sole goal was scored by Youssef En-Nesyri in the 42nd minute. In the Portugal box, he leaped above Ruben Dias and Diogo Costa to score. Cristiano Ronaldo came on as a substitute in the 51st minute, however, he was unsuccessful in scoring. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s run in the FIFA World Cup came to an end with the defeat.
The iconic Waka Waka song’s singer Shakira responded to Morocco’s victory. The Colombian pop star tweeted her congratulations to the Atlas Lions for their outstanding accomplishment. “This time for Africa!!” she tweeted which infamous is for her iconic 2010 World Cup song.
Throughout the entire tournament in Qatar, Walid Regragui’s Morocco has excelled. The likes of Belgium, Spain, and now Portugal have all been defeated by them. So far in the 2022 World Cup, the Atlas Lions have only conceded one goal. They are still unbeaten as they prepare to face either England or France in the semifinals.

2022 FIFA World Cup: Morocco 1-0 Portugal
With a 1-0 victory over Portugal on Saturday at Al Thumama Stadium, the Atlas Lions extended their legendary run in Qatar, becoming the first African team to ever advance to the World Cup semifinals. Just before halftime, Youssef En-Nesyri had the honour of scoring what will be remembered as one of the most important goals in the history of African football.
After Bruno Fernandes’ dipping right-wing shot hit the crossbar and claimed to have been pulled back into the box, he was not awarded a penalty. With Cristiano Ronaldo once more on the bench, Portugal applied severe pressure for a huge proportion of the second half, but their efforts fell short, much to the joy of the Moroccan-dominated crowd.
