Lady Cathy Ferguson passed away at the age of 84. She was married to Sir Alex Ferguson for over half a decade. The Ferguson family announced the sad news earlier on Friday. The statement read, “We are deeply saddened to inform the passing of Lady Cathy Ferguson. The family asks for privacy at this time.” Further, the statement read, “She is survived by her husband, Sir Alex, three sons, and 12 grandchildren.”

Recently, a video surfaced in which Sir Alex shares how he met his wife. In the video, Ferguson says that he met her through a friend. He was told, “There’s a really nice girl, who just started.” Lady Cathy also shared her thoughts about Sir Alex. The former Manchester United coach was a player at the time, and he had a plaster on his face from a football injury. This made her think that he was either a ‘thug or a boxer’, she said in a hilarious remark.

She also recalls a ‘romantic date’ with her husband, then boyfriend. Lady Cathy recalled that Sir Alex bought her a box of ‘Liquorice Allsorts’ and said, “He ate all of them from the box.” She also recalls going to the movies and getting a copy of the local newspaper on the way out. Condolences have been pouring in from all sides following her passing.

Manchester United pay tribute to Lady Cathy Ferguson

The Footballing community paid respect to the late Lady Cathy Ferguson. The wife of former Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson passed away on Friday. Following her passing, Machester United offered their condolences to the family. The club issued a statement on the club website and social media handles. The club announced that they were deeply saddened by her loss.

The statement read, “Everyone at Machester United sends their heartfelt condolences to Sir Alex and the Ferguson family.” They also announced that the club is set to pay a special tribute to the former coach’s wife. Subsequently, United players are set to wear black armbands against Brentford. The Premier League game kicks off on Saturday at 2:00 PM GMT.

The club also labeled Cathy Ferguson as a ‘tower of strength’ for their former manager. Also mentions that, “She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.” Meanwhile, Lady Cathy is also credited with persuading Sir Alex to not retire back in 2002. She convinced Ferguson to not retire and the club benefited for another 11 years under his tenure.
