“So much better than last season”- Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane in awe of Barcelona’s progress this season

Leroy Sane acknowledged that Bayern Munich’s 2-0 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday night was fortunate for the Bavarians. Barca approached the match at the Allianz Arena with a perfect record this year. They also swept the opening 45 minutes of the game, dominating while creating numerous opportunities that they failed to take advantage of.

Bayern, who played somewhat passively in the first half, took advantage of Barcelona’s sloppiness and scored twice past Marc-Andre ter Stegen early in the second half to secure an important win and move them to the top of Group C. After Lucas Hernandez’s header gave the German champions the lead, Sane added a second goal.

The former Manchester City star has since commented on the game and its outcome, claiming that some luck had a role in his team’s victory. The German winger also noted that Barcelona had changed much from the previous season when Bayern had easily defeated them.

“Barca are so much better than last season, and they play good football now. We were lucky at the beginning, but it’s part of football. Luck was on our side and we are happy to have won the three points,” Sane said.

Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski was ‘wasteful’ in front of goal against Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich vs Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski had some joy pressing from the front and linked nicely with his colleagues. However, wasted great chances to put his side ahead and it ultimately cost them on his return to his old stomping ground. Lewandowski, 34, spurned several golden opportunities to score in the first half while Barcelona carried the momentum, allowing Bayern to turn the game around after the break.

It was not the homecoming he would have wanted. The Polish forward has already bagged nine goals since swapping Munich for Barcelona in the summer and has the chance to get back on the scoresheet on Saturday against Elche. He’ll also have one eye on Bayern’s visit to Camp Nou on October 26.
