Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opened up about his time at the club. The Norwegian shed light on why he thought his tenure at Old Trafford came to a premature end and imploded the way it did in late 2021. Manchester United were everything but stable under the 50-year-old.

Speaking in an interview, the former Man United player said that he was disappointed in certain players but refused to name them. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that he was disappointed when two players turned down the captaincy at the club. Even though he refused to take names, there have been rumors of it.

Quite possibly, both Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba had the chance to become captains under Solskjaer. According to sources, Pogba turned down the offer because he was looking to leave the club, while Rashford felt that he was not ready for such a responsibility.

Solskjaer said that certain players weren’t as good as they perceived themselves” and that “some wouldn’t play or train as they were looking to force their way out” of the club. After the departure of Ashley Young, Solskjaer appointed Harry Maguire as the first team captain.

Manchester United get back to winning ways against Burnley

Manchester United secured a much-needed three points against Burnley on Saturday. In a game that saw United play second fiddle to an invigorated Burnley side in the first half, Captain Bruno Fernandes’ screamer ensured that the Red Devils went home with all three points. Jonny Evans made his first start for the club since 2015 and subsequently teed up Fernandes for his goal.

Andre Onana redeemed himself after a disastrous outing against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. His first-half save against Zeki Amdouni ensured that Erik Ten Hag‘s side kept a clean sheet. Onana let in atleast three goals in all of his last three games prior to the match against Burnley. Fernandes’ strike was also smothered by James Trafford in the first quarter.

United went ahead with a spectacular Bruno Fernandes volley. The Man United captain got on the end of a precise Jonny Evans‘ pass from deep in midfield. The Portuguese’s first shot beat Trafford in goal to make it 1-0 just before half-time. The win helped Manchester United rise to eighth with nine points in six games.
