Son Heung-min receives South Korea’s highest sporting honor by the country’s President

Tottenham star Son Heung-min was recently honored with the highest sporting award in South Korea, named the Cheongnyong Medal which he received from the President of the country on Thursday. Son became the first Asian footballer to receive the Premier League Golden Boot for the 2021/22 season, jointly with Egypt’s Mohammed Salah.
Son equaled the record with Salah of 23 premier league goals in a single season which made the Korean star, the joint-winner of the Golden Boot of one of the top-flight leagues in the world. President Yoon Suk-yeol presented the Cheongnyong Medal to the 29-year-old before South Korea’s friendly versus Brazil at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Son Heung-min has been outstanding this season for the Spurs as he pulled the team to the champions league qualification after beating Arsenal in the race for the top four spots. Conte’s side was lagging behind the Gunners with six points with four matches remaining in the league as they went on to beat Arsenal and decrease the lead and finally overtook them to capture the fourth spot.
Son receives one of the most prestigious awards in football as the premier league holds the position as one of the best leagues in the world. He shares the award with Egypt-born Salah who also scored 23 league goals and finished second in the table with just a point’s difference from becoming the winner.

Tottenham ended their campaign which started slowly but picked up the pace at the business end of the season as the team showed their passion to reach their destination of securing the top four spots which they managed after removing Arsenal from the queue.

The South Korean star winger of the Spurs had a fantastic season for Tottenham, scoring 24 goals and assisting eight times in 45 matches in all competitions. He also took up the Premier League’s top scorer award for the season with joint-holder, Salah from Liverpool. Son has a contract that runs until 2025, and his current market worth is €70 million.
