“Sorry for a clumsy joke”- Barcelona legend offers apology after helping his former skipper in an alleged homophobic tweet

Carles Puyol

Recently massive news of the Barcelona and Real Madrid legends broke out. When Iker Casillas made a tweet that said, “I hope you respect me, I’m Gay”, the tweet brought a storm of media upon their toes, when that wasn’t enough Carles Puyol replied to the tweet saying, “It’s time to tell our story, Iker”, another bomb amidst rising speculations.

A few minutes later in a huge controversy, the former goalkeeper Iker Casillas made a tweet confirming that his account was hacked, and someone else tweeted from his account and issued a sincere apology to the LGBTQ+ community. Followed by Puyol’s tweet in which he apologizes to the same community for his clumsy joke.

The defender mentioned, “I have made a mistake. Sorry for a clumsy joke with no bad intentions and totally out of place.” The player clarified that he only in a joking manner replied to Casillas’ tweet to have fun with his, but seems like the media and fans have taken it in some other world’s manner only.

The homophobic air, amidst the Barcelona & Real Madrid legends

Nearly 129 football fans were killed in an Indonesian Riot during a match

Although both parties have made their sincere apologies to the LGBTQ+ community, the Footballing world might have not been the most comfortable place, for people associated with it to reveal their third gender. It is by mistake only but for those few minutes, the football World trolled the heck out of Iker.

Toni Kroos the Real Madrid star once very rightly said, that you can be a third gender in football, but please keep it yourself as this environment is not safe for you, which created a lot of fuss back then, and now as well the homophobic nature of football fans and the community is barring people to reveal their third gender.

The most popular case amongst these was the case of Justin Fashanu the first English player who came out as ‘Gay’, never received any kind of sympathy or respect that he deserved, and after much heat and trolling committed suicide after 8 years of struggle and leading a life full of misery.
