Southampton forced to pay £110 million in loan by the end of 2024 that helped them buy the club

Southampton owner Dragan Solak is expected to pay back a €110 million he used to buy the club by the end of 2024. The Saints currently risk being relegated which further complicates the situation.

Solak bought the club in January 2022 and now faces the risk of falling into debt. Southampton look set to be demoted to The Championship at the end of the season which sees the club’s revenue be reduced by up to a third.

The financial statements of an investment business owned by Solak describe the debt that must be returned by December 2024. The accounts also show that the Southampton owner has access to an additional £50 million.

Dragan Solak is a Serbian businessman and media tycoon. He is the founder and owner of the United Group, a telecoms company. Solak was the biggest investor in Sport Republic’s bid to buy the Saints.

Southampton currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table with only six wins from 30 matches. The club went through three different managers over the course of the season as they hope to finish in the safe zone by the end of the season.

Southampton defender Mohamed Salisu has been omitted from Southampton’s first team squad after news of him leaving the club surfaced. Salisu has only featured in one of the club’s last eight Premier League matches. The Ghana international joined the Saints from Real Valladolid in 2020.

Newcastle United are reportedly plotting a €15 million move for Salisu in the summer looking to boost their defense as they potentially look at Champions League football next season. Manchester United and Aston Villa have also been linked as a move for the Ghanian.

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer is also a massive fan of the defender. He has been vocal in his admiration for Salisu calling him ‘rock solid’.
