The Spanish football federation announced on Thursday that the stadiums of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atlético Madrid are among those looking to host games if the 2030 World Cup is held in Spain and Portugal. Three venues would host games in Portugal. The first list features the stadiums of Athletic Bilbao, Valencia, Celta Vigo, and Real Sociedad in addition to Camp Nou in Barcelona, Wanda Metropolitano for Atlético, and Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid. By the 2030 World Cup, it is expected that the Santiago Bernabéu and Camp Nou would have had a complete renovation.

“This is the most important project that Spain will undertake in the next few years,” Spanish federation president Luis Rubiales said after a meeting to present the venues list and discuss the nation’s bid. There is no definite timetable for the announcement of the 11 locations that will be selected for the final bid presentation; the evaluation of the Spanish host cities will continue through November.

FIFA has not yet made public the official bid specifications for the 2030 World Cup, but Spain and Portugal are preparing for a competition featuring 48 nations, similar to the one in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026. In 2024, FIFA is expected to choose the host countries for the 2030 World Cup.

The Barcelona star Ronald Araujo has been injured during his international match with Uruguay, following a thigh injury the player had to walk out of the field. Reportedly the Uruguayan player would be off the field for almost 3 months of time, which will make him miss the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The young player’s wish to play for his team in the World Cup unfortunately would be shattered, the Uruguayan team is lacking a strong centre-back and has no better option at the team than Araujo himself. Playing at the biggest stage of the international level football is still a dream to many.
