Following the controversy that ensued after RFEF President Luis Rubiales kissed World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso on the lips, a new and concerning development has come to light. In an astonishing act of support for Rubiales, The Spanish FA have urged UEFA to “suspend” them from all UEFA competitions if the body intends to kick out Rubiales from his position and suspend him from all activity. This could mean serious repercussions for Spanish clubs including giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
This development will affect both Real and Barca who compete in the UCL, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid who have qualified for the Europa League as well as Osasuna in the Europa Conference League. The possibility of Spanish clubs being expelled arose out of the decision of Andreu Camps to question the interference of the Spanish Government in the Rubiales scandal.
After an initial suspension of 90 days was announced for Rubiales, suspending him from all football-related activity, UEFA are yet to decide upon their course of action with the President. Several footballers including Alex Morgan, Alexia Putellas and Borja Iglesias have come forward in support of the player.
Mother goes on hunger strike following Luis Rubiales’ suspension
The mother of RFEF President Luis Rubiales, Angeles Bejar, has gone on a hunger strike following the “inhuman hunt” against her son.
Amidst the ongoing scandal surrounding Rubiales’ kiss on Jenni Hermoso, the President’s mother has taken to a hunger strike and has decided to lock herself inside a church located in Motril.
Angeles told the media that her strike will go on indefinitely, regardless of day and night. Bejar, speaking to EFE, Spanish media outlet, said that the inhuman and bloody hunt against her son is unwarranted and “not what he deserves“.
