The Netherlands secured their place in the quarter-finals of Qatar 2022 after they triumphed over the US at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday. Memphis Depay and Daley Blind scored the first two goals of the match, giving the Netherlands a two-goal lead at halftime. However, Haji Wright pulled one back for the US but Denzel Dumfries’ brilliant third goal sealed the win for the Dutch, meaning they will face either Argentina in the quarter-final.

President Biden Twitted “Strictly speaking, shouldn’t it be ‘voetbal’? Kidding aside: congrats to your team and country, Mark. Rematch in New Zealand,”

Netherlands vs USA

The Netherlands defeated the USA 3-1 and earned a spot in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar. The Americans were largely outplayed and outclassed by their opponents and only managed to score one goal. Matt Turner in goal for the US produced some remarkable saves, but his Dutch counterpart Andries Noppert wasn’t tested as much.

The USA had a strong showing in the first half, however, they were unable to take advantage of their opportunities due to their lack of composure in the final third of the field. On the other hand, the Dutch remained composed and eventually capitalized on their chances to break through the USA’s defense. Christian Pulisic, the USA forward, missed a great opportunity to put his team ahead early on when his shot was blocked by the opposing team’s goalkeeper.

The Netherlands steadily improved their performance as the match progressed, with Memphis Depay and Daley Blind both finding the back of the net after Denzel Dumfries provided them with the necessary assists in the 10th and the first minute of stoppage time in the first half. The Netherlands national football team has gone 19 games without a loss, they will now face Argentina in the quarterfinal match.
