Brentford’s forward, Ivan Toney, who currently faces suspension, has been strongly linked with a possible move away from Brentford. Recent reports suggest that the player may prefer to join Premier League giants Arsenal, over rivals Chelsea.
Ivan Toney caught everyone’s attention in the Premier League following his stellar performances with Brentford. Now, he is in a three-way transfer battle between Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham. All of these London rivals seem to be interested in buying the player. So, the current employers Brentford may find it hard to retain the services of Toney upon his return in January.
Arsenal is in the lead to sign the English forward. Reports indicate that the player favors the Gunners. Furthermore, Rahman Osman, writer for London World, writes that the Blues would be taking a backseat after learning about the English striker’s preference.
Understand Chelsea will not push for Ivan Toney for a number of reasons but primarily because he wants Arsenal more.
The £100 million-rated Brentford striker, currently serving an eight-month ban for breaking FA’s betting rules, will be eligible to play again in January 2024. Arsenal have a keen interest in signing Toney to boost their forward line. But with only 18 months left on his contract, Brentford are determined to retain his services.
However, Chelsea are hesitant due to Toney’s age and the high £100 million price tag. Turning 28 next year, he might not align with Chelsea’s strategy of investing in younger players.
With so many potential suitors, it will be interesting to see where Ivan Toney finally ends up.
Possible destination of Ivan Toney post his return from suspension
Brentford star Ivan Toney, who made headlines after his performances for the club over the past few seasons, looks likely to move away from the club, this winter transfer window. Premier League sides Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham are highly interested in signing the player.
In January, Toney returns after serving his suspension. Arsenal leads the race for him, meeting his preference for joining Mikel Arteta‘s side. Chelsea is considering a big move, expressing doubts about Toney’s commitment. Brentford wants to retain him as a key player, with Tottenham also eyeing him as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.
Meanwhile, it could be said that Chelsea are not even in contention to land the player. Leaving the North London rivals to battle it out for the player. It is going to get ‘merry’ for one of these clubs as the winter transfer window could not have come at a better time than this.
