A much-awaited return to the USMNT, the CONCACAF Nations League final and a goal worth winning any competition – three things outlined yesterday’s final featuring the USMNT & Mexico. It was through unlikely candidates Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna that the USMNT maintained their crown and ensured that their rivals couldn’t ascend to the throne on their watch.
Adams, who had only recently returned from an injury, found himself unmarked and with a clear sight of goal in the 45th minute. The midfielder picked up the ball from Juventus star Weston McKennie, before stunning the crowd at the AT&T Stadium. He unleashed a belter of a strike from distance, which proved to be too much for legendary keeper Guillermo Ochoa.
The Bournemouth player was unlikely to even start the game, let alone score an unbelievable goal. Gio Reyna also played a crucial part in their win in the final, as the No.7 showed his technical brilliance as he struck home a rebound in the 63rd minute.
Despite playing only two competitive games in the last 11 months. The game against Mexico all but proves that Tyler and Reyna remain indispensable elements of the USMNT squad.
USMNT conquer Mexico as fans go berserk on football X
Two of the three 2026 FIFA World Cup hosts were in action as the CONCACAF Nations League final unfolded at the AT&T Stadium on Sunday. Following the USMNT’s 2-0 win, fans took to social media, with a fan commenting that Tyler Adams owns Mexican and West Ham United defender Edson Alvarez. Another claimed that the yearly tradition of Mexico losing to the USA is still going strong.
Excited Chelsea fans claimed that he will soon be at Stamford Bridge and that the rest of the League should be afraid of him. Others felt that Reyna’s inclusion in the squad was unjustified, given the fact that he has only played 39 minutes for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The 21-year-old made his loan move to Forest back in January.
However, fans said that despite his lack of minutes, Reyna didn’t miss a beat in the final. He ended up scoring the USMNT’s second and final goal of the game. His goal in the final, coupled with his two assists in the semi-final against Jamaica make his crowning moment as the CONCACAF Golden Ball winner all the more deserving.
