Mass-followed American popstar Taylor Swift forced Lionel Messi and Argentina’s World Cup Qualifier against Uruguay to be shifted from the El Monumental to the La Bombonera stadium in Argentina. The 33-year-old’s ‘Eras Tour’ has taken over the globe and it seems that even the World Cup Champions had to move for the singer.

On her global tour spanning five continents, Taylor Swift’s first concert in Argentina drew massive crowds, with fans camping outside stadiums for months to snag prime seats. However, her rescheduled performance due to bad weather at El Monumental might influence the relocation of an upcoming match. As Taylor heads to Brazil for her next show, the Argentine National Team also departs, gearing up to face Brazil in the FIFA World Cup Qualification stage.

Despite Argentina’s strong start in the qualification campaign, Brazil has faced challenges, earning only seven points in five games. They’re grappling with injuries, notably missing Neymar Jr. and Casemiro. In their recent three games, Brazil managed only one draw and suffered two losses. To overcome their struggles, they need a significant improvement, especially considering their rivals, Argentina, have also recently faced their first defeat since the World Cup almost a year ago.

Though Argentina had to give up their stadium to accommodate the world’s biggest pop star, Brazil will not have to do so as Taylor Swift’s concert in Brazil takes place at the Nilton Santos stadium whereas the Qualification fixture will take place at the historical Maracanã.

Sabrina Carpenter performed her hit song ‘Nonsense’ during the concert and added the player’s name to the lyrics which was met with a huge cheer by the crowd in El Monumental. Adding the lines, “He’s having a ball he calls me Messi,” Sabrina Carpenter quickly won over the crowd.

Though fans of football did not get to see the player on the night, the crowd at the stadium was reminded of their World Cup winner, Lionel Messi.
