Terry Phelan Roots for an all English final at UEFA Champions League 2021-22, hints that Manchester City and Liverpool are the favorites to win the title
In a Sony Sports Exclusive, Terry Phelan talked about the Champions League and how fans can witness yet another all-English final between Manchester City and Liverpool this year.
“I would love to see that (an all-English final), and I think, so will others. That would just tell you the strength of the Premier League, wouldn’t it? It can happen because you have got teams like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City in there, who are doing very well in the Premier League,” said Phelan.
“You look at Liverpool, what they are doing at this time, especially after a poor last season, they have really come to head now. They are in multiple competitions. Klopp never changes his system, rotates one or two players and all the players know the philosophy,” the former Chelsea man added.
Manchester City and Liverpool did make a mark this season with their team strength and clarity during the important games both in the domestic league and the European Competitions.
To this point we saw the latest quarterfinal action with Liverpool leading 3-1 in the first leg against Benfica, Manchester city with a slim 1-0 margin against Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid decimating Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, and Villarreal with a surprising 1-0 lead against FC Bayern Munich.
Apart from Manchester City and Liverpool, Terry Phelan also spoke about the strengths of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and others
Commenting about other teams in the Champions League he had this to say, “Real Madrid is at the top of the tree in La Liga, with Benzema scoring goals for fun. Vinicius Junior is also an exciting player who is out there scoring.”
“Manchester City have a difficult one against Atletico Madrid. Of all the teams, Pep wouldn’t have wanted to play against Atletico Madrid. The way they play; they are very rigid in the defense. They get numbers behind the ball and they hit you on the counterattack,” added the 55-year-old.
“On the other hand, you see Benfica and Villarreal and think, ‘is this the year of underdogs’?I expect Liverpool to beat Benfica and I expect Bayern Munich to beat Villareal, to tell you the truth,” concluded the Phelan.
Phelan had some polar opinions to present but there was a certain truth in those statements as Manchester City and Liverpool do have the best team dynamic of all the teams. A select number of players also presented their individual finesse the best example being Karim ‘K9’ Benzema whose hattrick made sure Los Merengues have the leverage going into leg-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
