“The club should avoid favoring English players”- Former player puts big allegations on Manchester United

Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly, a defender for Manchester United, has accused the club of favoring English players and expressed his optimism that new manager Erik ten Hag will give foreign players a better chance than his predecessors.

After being loaned out to Marseille, Eric Bailly made fun of Manchester United by saying they preferred English players. The 28-year-old defender, who joined the Red Devils in 2016, thinks that Old Trafford should give more international players an opportunity, and he hopes that new manager Erik ten Hag will stop the apparent favoritism.

“The club should avoid favouring English players and give everyone a chance,” Bailly claimed.

“The club should encourage competition in the dressing room, not just look out for some.

“I’ve always had the feeling that the national player was prioritized. That doesn’t happen at Chelsea or other big Premier League clubs. Some people take it for granted that they are going to start, and that weakens the team. Luckily, Ten Hag has a lot of character and I hope he can change that dynamic.”

Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly was Jose Mourinho‘s first acquisition as manager and appeared in 113 games for United over the course of six injury-plagued seasons. The center-back from Ivory Coast departed Villarreal for almost £30 million. following a successful debut campaign in which he assisted the Red Devils in capturing the Community Shield, EFL Cup, and Europa League. Bailly’s Old Trafford career was derailed by injuries.

The Ivory Coast international struggled to maintain consistent minutes and form due to a number of problems that started in late 2017, including a major ankle injury that sidelined him for four months. After Mourinho was fired midway through his third season, Bailly felt that this summer was the time to convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

The striking defender joined Marseille on loan should the French giants qualify for the Champions League, the loan agreement will be converted to a permanent one for a sum of £6 million. The deal Bailly signed to return to Manchester doesn’t expire until June 2024. He reportedly accepted fresh terms after being promised greater playing time under Solskjaer, a guarantee that wasn’t kept.

At the conclusion of the previous campaign, he had even begun to pack his bags, but Ten Hag persuaded him to join United for their preseason tour.

“I met Erik Ten Hag in the dressing room at the end of last season when he went to sign his contract,” Bailly revealed. “I was packing my things because my intention was to leave, but he told me he wanted me to stay because he was going to give minutes to everyone.

“I agreed to do the summer tour with United, and he kept his word, but I don’t want to play every now and then. I want to do it every week and feel important. I want to get my confidence back.”

Bailly said, through sources that, in a more comprehensive appraisal on his time in England.  “I was Mourinho’s first signing and I also had good moments where titles were won. I played important games and in some, I was chosen as the best player. I think when I was given the opportunity I rose to the occasion. I just lacked consistency, because I think I deserved more minutes.”
