Erling Haaland applauded Borussia Dortmund’s defence against Manchester City, but he quickly pointed out that they still couldn’t stop him. In a 2-1 Champions League victory on Wednesday, Man City struggled to get the better of the Bundesliga team; they didn’t have a chance on goal until John Stones‘ attempt in the eighty-fifth minute.
They also scored on their first shot that was on target, and Haaland scored the game-winning goal with a volley. The Norwegian praised the defence and performance of his previous squad but emphasized that it wasn’t enough to stop him.
Haaland hugged almost every Dortmund player and member of their backroom team after the final whistle. When asked about how well his former teammates had defended against him, the City striker praised their attempt but highlighted he had the last laugh.
When told by an interview on BT Sport that BVB ‘clearly know how to stop you’, Haaland replied: “They didn’t stop me, I scored! But yeah, they played well and they were good, and I was quite sure I was going to be followed all game because they know me very well. Dortmund were really good today, and in the end, the three points is what matters.”

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland claims he’s goal was better than John Stones’ long-range belter

Haaland’s goal, which he scored by lifting his leg incredibly high to turn in a beautiful cross from Joao Cancelo, was one of his best ones to date. Stones’ attempt from outside the box on the team’s opening attempt wasn’t terrible either, but Haaland jokingly said that his was superior to the other one.
“Yeah, two wonderful goals today. I think mine was a bit better, honestly,” he added. Just one goal separates the 22-year-old from Luis Suarez and only four fewer than Wayne Rooney in the Champions League, respectively.
