After Monday’s draw produced a tantalizing matchup, Barcelona will need to defeat Manchester United in the Europa League. Fans were ecstatic from the moment the Europa League draw began because the tie was the first to be drawn. The most recent meeting between the Catalans and the Red Devils was in the quarterfinals of the 2018–19 Champions League. Barcelona then triumphed 3-0 at Camp Nou and prevailed 1-0 at Old Trafford.

In historical Champions League finals between these two teams, Barcelona prevailed over United in both Rome and London while playing under Pep Guardiola. Especially in recent years, Manchester United has a longer experience in the Europa League than Barcelona. Jose Mourinho led United to victory in the 2017 tournament.

The opening leg of each match will be held at Camp Nou on February 16 and February 23. Both of United’s Premier League games against Brentford and Leicester at home the weekends of February 18 and 25 are anticipated to be shifted to Sunday timeslots. After their unsuccessful pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the summer, United’s draw is especially intriguing.
