Some leaked audio clips in the month of February of Barcelona youngster Riqui Puig circulated on the internet. The Spanish youngster was heard making comments about new Barca signing Ferran Torres. He was heard saying, “Ferran Torres? Guardiola didn’t even want him. Last year, he played 12 matches.”
He was also heard saying that he had offers from Chelsea and Milan , but he chose to stay at Barcelona because he was very good at Barca. The midfielder added, “They pay you double the money, but you are alone.”
Riqui Puig is set to join MLS side LA Galaxy:
Riqui Puig, a midfielder for Barcelona, is expected to sign a free transfer with LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer, sources told ESPN on Tuesday. Puig, who will turn 23 the following week, is anticipated to land in the country soon to finalize the transaction before the MLS transfer window ends on Thursday.
Sources predict Puig will join the Galaxy for free, as Mundo Deportivo originally reported, but Barca will be entitled to a cut of any future transfers. Puig’s contract only had one year left when Barca had wanted to sell him this summer, but that proved hard for a player they had been quite clear would not be a part of their foreseeable future.
Coach Xavi Hernandez of Barcelona informed Puig in May that he will not be a part of his plans for the upcoming campaign. To give him time to decide his future, he wasn’t included in the club’s recent US tour. Puig has been connected to a number of European teams, but he has chosen to sign with the Galaxy after former Barca player Victor Vazquez offered to sell the team to him.
In 2013, Puig enrolled in Barca’s academy, and his first-team debut came in 2018. Despite being considered one of the cornerstones of Barca’s future when he first broke through, he has since made 60 appearances for the club but has never cemented himself as a regular.
