Premier League: Everton vs Liverpool: As it happened
Everton believed they had taken the lead midway through the second half when Conor Coady, a former Liverpool academy player, headed in Neal Maupay’s cross, only to be disappointed when a VAR check revealed he was just inches offside. After an Everton corner was only partially cleared, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson made a deft early save to save Anthony Gordon’s exploding drive.
Then, the hosts nearly scored when Davies’ shot from 12 yards hit the left post. Prior to the break, however, Jurgen Klopp’s men displayed their threat when Pickford deflected Nunez’s wonderful shot against the crossbar, and on the rebound, Diaz slammed a rocket of a shot against the right post.
It could have been worse, as Salah, quiet for so much of the game, almost won it in stoppage time, his shot cracking off the foot of the right post.
